Studio composes video, GIF, still-image, and generated layers into a timed loop. Resource navigation includes Layers, Effects, Looks, Sound, and Output. Timing tools use Animation, Frames, and Rails; on phones, open them through Time. The Composition preview shows the full composite. Select a layer before changing its properties or effects; the selected layer is the target for the Effects workspace and the Before/After comparison.

Typical first edit:

  1. Choose Import media or drop media onto the canvas.
  2. In Layers, select a layer, adjust its placement or timing, and use + Add layer if you need text, a generator, an adjustment layer, or another source.
  3. In Effects, choose Add effect or open Looks & variation and try a Look. Play the loop, compare Before and After, then tune the effect controls.
  4. Optionally animate a numeric effect property, add sound, or restrict an effect with Frame coverage · Rails.
  5. In Output, choose a format and size, then press Download. Use Save project when you need an editable project file.

Opening the Output tab only reveals settings; it does not start a render. The header Download action begins rendering with the current Output settings.

Name, save, open, and recover a project

Project title

Rename from the header’s project-name control; the dialog action is Save name. Names are trimmed and Unicode-normalized. Empty names, path separators, control or bidirectional formatting characters, the names “.” and “..”, and names longer than 80 code points are rejected. If no title was saved, older projects may take their initial title from the first media filename.

The title is also available through Project → Rename project. Renaming changes project/export naming; it does not rename source files, layers, effects, tracks, or IDs.

Save an editable project

Choose Save project to download a .kinoe project. This is an editable archive containing the composition and its source media, frame timing, effect stacks and animation, tracking data, sound settings/recorded loop, Output choices, and project title. It is not a rendered GIF or MP4. Use Download for a finished result.

When the browser offers a native save picker, select the destination and confirm the save there. In browsers without that picker, Studio requests a normal download and gives the file a unique title-based name; check the browser’s download list and choose a location you can find. A browser’s download request is not proof the file reached a particular folder.

Open a project

Choose Open project and select a .kinoe file. If a project is already open, Studio first saves that work to this browser before replacing it. If the save fails—for example, because a live camera cannot be kept—it asks Keep my work or Open and lose it. Choose Keep my work, then use Save project to make a file copy. An incomplete archive may offer Open what's there or Cancel; read the missing-media list before continuing. Project archives above 4 GB are refused.

Automatic recovery

Studio autosaves to this browser on this device about every four seconds and again when the page is hidden. On return, Recover your work can list the latest saved sessions; choose Recover it or Not now. On phones and tablets the offer also appears at the top of the empty canvas; with more than one session, Choose a session opens the list. While space is available, sessions from the past 7 days and at least the five most recent are retained. If storage is full, Studio may remove older sessions while saving the current one, but a failed retry keeps those earlier sessions. If saving still fails, use Save project to make a file copy. After the first autosave, Studio asks the browser to keep this storage; some browsers, such as Firefox, may ask you to allow it. A refusal leaves autosave working, but browser storage may still be cleared under pressure. Separate tabs/sessions are kept separately. Browser storage is not a cloud backup and is not included in a .kinoe download unless you explicitly use Save project.

Live webcam media is not included in autosaves or project files. Record a loop before saving if you want camera frames in the project. If local storage is blocked or full, save a .kinoe file to disk. Do not clear site data until you have saved anything you want to keep.

Studio can also receive a frame sequence handed off by another Kinoe tool such as GIF Maker. It reads the handoff from this browser’s storage and keeps the sequence order and timing; adjust it in Frames. If the handoff cannot be opened, its frames stay on this device and Studio reports that you can reload and try again.

Import media and image sequences

Use Import media, Media files…, or drag files into the Composition. Video and GIF files become layers. Supported still-image extensions include PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF and BMP, subject to browser decoding. Video import recognizes common MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV and OGV extensions; actual codecs must still be decodable by the browser. A ProRes MOV may open in Safari; if a MOV fails elsewhere, export an H.264 MP4 and retry.

When importing multiple stills, choose one of these exact options:

  • One animated layer · each image is a frame — creates a sequence. Initially, names are placed in natural filename order; reorder them later in Frames.
  • Separate layers — creates one layer per file.

For a sequence, Each frame (s) sets the initial duration. Fit inside the largest, Fit inside the smallest, Crop all to the first image's size, and Keep each at its own size determine how mixed image dimensions are handled; the last option centres each image. These options preserve separate source frames; cropping/fit is part of the sequence import, not a destructive edit to the original files. Use Add to Studio or Cancel to finish the import dialog.

GIFs are decoded into source frames and timing. A still image remains a still. If an image is not displayed, confirm the file is a supported format and that the browser can decode it. If a video has sound, it can appear in Sound as a video-sound source.

Layers, placement, blend, and clip timing

The Layers list is labelled “top first”: higher layers appear in front. Select a row to edit it. The row actions show/hide, move Up (in front) or Down (behind), and Remove. Duplicate layer copies the layer, including its effects, frames, and timing.

+ Add layer offers:

  • Media files… — import video, GIF, or images.
  • Audio visualiser — spectrum-driven bars or a ring; add sound or microphone input to drive it.
  • Text — animated words in Kinoe’s included font choices; effects also work on text.
  • Camera — live webcam layer with Mirror (like a selfie view); the browser is asked for ideal 1920×1080 video, but the device/browser determines the actual resolution. Record a loop counts down for three seconds, then records one composition loop into saved frames.
  • Adjustment layer — applies its effects to the layers below it.
  • Gradient, Noise, Pattern, Particles, and Solid colour — generated visual layers.

The selected layer’s controls include X (px), Y (px), Scale (%), Rotation (°), Opacity (%), Blend, Show through, and Starts at (s). Scale accepts 1–1000%, Opacity 0–100%, and Starts at is nonnegative. Reset position returns it to fitted, centred, 100%. Repeat to fill the loop repeats a short source to fill the composition loop. Blend modes are Normal, Add, Screen, Multiply, Overlay, Difference, Lighten, and Darken. Show through options are None, Shape of layer above, Shape of layer above, inverted, Brightness of layer above, and Brightness of layer above, inverted. This uses another layer as a stencil; it is not a general-purpose clip mask editor.

For eligible media, use Split at playhead, Trim start to playhead, Trim end to playhead, In (s into the file), and Out (s into the file). A split makes two editable sections with their own effect copies; the source file is unchanged. Videos need at least one frame in each part; GIF/image sequences split on frame boundaries and need at least two frames in each part. Transition in offers None (cut), Crossfade, Dip to black, and Wipe. A transition is centred on the join, defaults to 0.5 seconds, and is limited to four seconds. Use Undo clip edit / Redo clip edit for recent clip edits. A single still, live camera feed, adjustment layer, or generated layer cannot be split; record a camera loop first. Repeating layers must have Repeat to fill the loop turned off before a split. A layer using Show through as a stencil cannot be split until its matte is set to None. If a video’s sound is still being read, wait and retry. Sequence timing is also edited in Frames.

Generated-layer controls

Each generator’s main controls are in its selected-layer properties. Audio visualiser provides Style (Bars, Mirrored bars, Ring, Line), Bars, Height, Colour 1–3, and advanced position, width, gap, end-softening, minimum-bar, ring-radius, or line-thickness controls as appropriate to the chosen style. Text provides Text, Font, Size (% of height), Colour, Animation (None, Typewriter, Glitch in, Flicker, Scroll, Wave, Pop in, Rise), and Repeats per loop, with advanced alignment, position, letter spacing, line height, outline, and background-box settings. Gradient has From, To, Angle (°), Shape (Linear or Radial), and Flow (cycles per loop). Noise has Size, Contrast, Evolution (cycles per loop), Dark, and Light. Pattern has Pattern (Stripes, Checks, Dots, Grid), Size (px), Angle (°), Drift (cycles per loop), and Colour A/B. Particles has Motion (Rise, Burst, Orbit, Fall), Count, Size (px), Spread, Speed (cycles per loop), Colour, and Variation. Solid colour has Colour. Exact generator controls, defaults, ranges, and choices appear in the generated-layer section of the effect reference.

Frames and source inspection

For a GIF or image-sequence layer, Frames lists frames in playback order. Select a frame to set its Duration (s), move it Earlier or Later, Copy it, or Remove it. On desktop layouts, Previous and Next step through source frames. On phones, use the compact frame strip and the selected-frame actions; those controls differ from the desktop panel. View selected frame large opens a larger view. For videos, inspect Source time (s) and nearby source samples; this source inspector is not an independent composition-time editor.

Sequence tools include Sequence settings, Every frame (s), Apply to all, Reverse, and Ping-pong. Reverse flips playback order. Ping-pong mirrors the sequence without duplicating the endpoints. When frames are reordered, copied, removed, or reversed, Studio tries to keep frame-specific effect coverage attached to the corresponding frame identity.

The source-frame duration editor accepts 0.02 to 60 seconds per frame. Use Every frame (s) to set a common duration, then select Apply to all. For video, use the clip In/Out and playhead controls instead of the image-sequence timing tools.

Effects, effect stacks, and parameter help

Select the target layer, open Effects, then choose Add effect. Search by name in Search effects. Each effect card offers its own enabled state, Key for the effect’s on/off state, stack ordering, Duplicate, and Remove. Effects are applied in displayed top-to-bottom stack order. Two copies of the same effect are separate instances with separate controls. Use Earlier and Later to change their order. In the compact phone layout, use Show stack to choose an effect instance and Selected controls to return to its inspector.

The effect library spans these families: Tracking, Glitch, Film and analogue, Time, Warp, Pixel and print, Stylise and print, Light and colour, Blur and glow, Lens and glass, Masks and keys, and Texture. The effect reference lists every effect with its exact parameter labels, default, numeric range and step, select choices, conditional controls, advanced disclosures, and available practical hints. It also indexes the seven generated-layer types and their 52 controls. Use it as the field guide alongside an effect card.

Parameter controls can be numeric ranges, select menus, colours, text, editable curves, LUT files, painted masks, or layer selectors. Open More settings to see advanced effect controls; tracking also has a Track Styles & text tags disclosure. Some controls only appear after choosing a relevant mode, so a missing control may be conditional rather than unavailable. Range parameters may expose Motion, Key, and Lock actions; Lock keeps supported settings unchanged during Shuffle. Discrete choices and text fields are not necessarily animatable. Enter numeric values only within the displayed control range.

Several control types have their own editing steps. For a painted mask, select Paint on the picture, draw on the composition preview, adjust Brush size (0.005–0.3; initial value 0.04), Soft edge (on by default), or Erase (off by default), then select Done painting. Use Clear to remove its strokes. A LUT parameter loads a .cube file with Load a .cube file; after one is loaded, the action becomes Change LUT. The file must be under 20 MB and contain a valid 3D LUT (LUT_3D_SIZE 2–65 with the matching number of colour rows); 1D LUTs are not supported. In Dither’s custom palette mode, Load palette file reads .hex, .gpl, or .txt text and uses the first 2–8 colours it finds (up to the first 100,000 characters); Copy colours copies the active palette as hex. A curve editor switches between RGB, Red, Green, and Blue; drag points, click to add one, or double-click an interior point to remove it. Each channel supports at most 16 points; endpoints keep their left/right position while their value can move vertically. Curve presets include S-curve (more contrast), Soft contrast, Faded film (lifted blacks), Cross-processed, Teal and orange, Moody blue shadows, and Invert; Reset [channel] restores the selected channel.

Some effects build up temporal history (for example trails or melt-style effects). Play the full loop to judge these. An effect may support selected-frame coverage through Rails while still using continuous history from earlier frames; coverage does not reset every effect’s internal history.

Looks and variation

Open Looks & variation to browse built-in Looks and Your Looks. A Look is a tuned stack of effects with animation values prepared for a looping composition. Applying a Look appends its effects to the selected layer’s existing stack; it does not replace that stack. Look previews are visual suggestions, not a guarantee of the animated result, so apply the Look and play the loop.

Choose Save as Look to save the current effect stack in this browser. Name this Look accepts up to 60 characters. Export Look file writes a portable JSON Look; Import Look file reads one and appends its effect stack to the selected layer. A Look contains effect settings, not source media or the complete project. Imported Look files are limited to 2 MB and 40 effects. Layer-target references are not portable, and tracking identifiers should be rechecked after reloading or changing the source.

Shuffle generates another variation. Edit Seed, then press Enter or activate Shuffle with this seed to reproduce that seeded variation. The Shuffle group's Undo returns to its previous snapshot while keeping later manual setting changes where possible. Shuffle respects locked settings where supported, but some effects (especially tracking) need review after shuffle. There is no project-wide named history or universal undo stack.

Undo on/off and Redo on/off only reverse recent effect enabled-state changes. The shuffle group's Undo only restores the previous shuffle snapshot; it keeps later manual edits where possible. Neither control is a general undo for parameter, layer, import, or project changes. Seed accepts 0–999,999,999; press Enter or activate Shuffle with this seed to rebuild that variation.

Built-in Looks include: Signal Bloom, Acid Tunnel, VHS Memory, Liquid Heat, Ghost Echo, Corrupt, Halftone Press, 1-bit Pulse, Kodak Gold 200, Portra 400, CineStill 800T, Tri-X 400, Infrared, Instant Film, Super 8, Old Film, VHS Home Video, CRT Arcade, Broadcast TV, Bad Signal, LED Billboard, Light Leak Dream, Miniature, Dream Mist, Anamorphic Night, Starburst, Bokeh Night, Handheld, Fisheye, Through the Glass, Smash, Warp Speed, Newsprint, CMYK Print, Riso Zine, Riso Trio, Photocopy, Topographic, Neon Topo, Sketchbook, Etching, Pointillism, Oil Painting, Comic, Ridgelines, Plotter, Linocut, Flow Mosh, Motion Colour, Stop Motion, Long Exposure, Echo Chamber, Motion Outlines, Speed Smear, and Glitch in Motion. Your Looks contains the stacks saved locally by the user.

Animation and keyframes

Open the Animation view in the time tools. The tabs are Animation, Frames, and Rails; Show timeline and Hide timeline expand or collapse the timing workspace. Choose an animatable numeric parameter, then click its Key control to set or remove a keyframe at the playhead. Change the value at another time to create a second key. Use Add keyframe or right-click the timeline to open At the playhead and add a key to a supported property. Drag or navigate the playhead to inspect the interpolated result. Only supported range parameters receive property keyframes; select menus, text, colours, curves, and other control types may have different or no animation support. The effect’s Key button is separate: it keys the effect’s enabled/disabled state.

Keyframe interpolation options are ease, linear, and hold. To modulate a supported value, select Motion and use Moved by to choose Sine wave, Triangle wave, Saw wave, Square wave, Smooth noise, Random steps, Sound: bass/mids/highs/loudness/beat, or MIDI knob. Loop-locked waves expose Cycles / loop (1–16); all modes expose Depth (0–1). MIDI knob mode offers Learn; turn a controller knob after selecting it to map that control. A whole-number cycle count is designed to return to its starting phase at the loop boundary. Check the effect-specific reference before applying Motion to a property. A keyframe or modulation is not the same as the selected-frame coverage in Rails.

The project timeline has a playhead and loop length. On phones, open the Time workspace first. The loop-length field accepts 0.1 to 120 seconds. A long render may be constrained by the device’s memory and processing capacity even when the time field accepts the value.

Frame coverage and Rails

Open Frame coverage · Rails in Effects or the Rails time view to control which eligible source frames an effect uses. All frames is the default. Rails apply to GIF and image-sequence layers with at least two frames; they are not offered for video, a still image, live camera, generated, adjustment, or other non-sequence layers. If the composition uses frame timing or order changes, Studio remaps rail selections by frame identity where possible. If a transfer cannot be made for a batch job, the interface warns and offers an all-frame application for that batch; it does not silently change the project’s own selected frames.

Motion tracking, tracking effects, and tags

For a video or sequence layer, choose Motion tracking, then Track a point on this layer. Pick a distinct, high-contrast detail in the source image and choose Detail size (Small, Medium, or Large). Studio follows the point through the source frames. This layer follows attaches another layer to the tracked point; Centre on the tracked point places the tracked detail at the canvas centre. The follower keeps its existing offset. Use Show path / Hide path, Re-anchor here, or Delete a track. Press Escape while choosing a point to cancel point selection.

Tracking uses local image matching, not identity recognition. Frames with confidence below 0.6 are marked for review; below 0.35, the tracker also tries a wider local search. Weak sections are shown, not concealed; a follower carries on along the last motion there. Occlusion, a crossing, a quick camera move, a changing shape, or a repetitive texture can make the tracker lose the point or follow the wrong feature. Inspect flagged frames and re-anchor. A follower may remain in place if the original layer is removed.

The Blob tracking effect is separate from point tracking. It detects bright shapes, dark shapes, or movement and can draw markers, labels, links, and per-ID interior treatments. Open Track Styles & text tags for rule and tag slots. To identify the number you want, choose Labels → ID only and read it in the preview; then enter that number in Tag 1 target ID and its caption in Tag 1 text. Use the numbers actually shown in your preview; 0 disables a slot. IDs can change when objects cross, overlap, disappear, or move quickly, and after resets, resize, shuffle, export, or reopen. Recheck each tag and target rule after those changes. Tags are text labels, not durable object identities.

Sound, microphone, and MIDI

Open Sound to add a soundtrack with + Add sound, use the audio from a video layer, or connect live inputs. Supported audio import includes common MP3, WAV, and M4A files, subject to browser decoding. The waveform lets you drag the loop start. Set Loop starts at (s), choose Loop length (1 beat, 2 beats, 1 bar, 2 bars, or 4 bars), and use Fit loop to the beat when useful. Set Sound volume (%) from 0 to 200%. Video sound follows its layer; duplicate video layers start muted to avoid doubling audio. GIF export is silent. Include the sound in MP4 exports controls MP4 audio.

Use microphone asks for browser permission and gives supported effects live microphone analysis. Live analysis alone is not stored. When you choose Record a loop of live input, Studio records analyzed levels and spectrum for the loop, not microphone audio. Connect MIDI depends on browser support, permission and a connected device. The meters show Bass, Mids, Highs, Loudness and Beat. Clear the recording removes the recorded control data. The Audio visualiser layer can respond to soundtrack or microphone spectrum. For exported motion from a mapped knob, choose Motion beside a supported setting, select MIDI knob, use Learn, and record a loop while the knob moves. A mapped MIDI pad switches a Look during preview; pad presses are not captured in the recorded loop.

If a soundtrack does not decode, try a supported audio format or a shorter file. Microphone and MIDI availability depend on browser permissions, secure-context rules, and device support.

Compare effects and view the canvas

The Composition preview shows the full layer composite. Before bypasses effects on the selected layer; After returns to its normal rendered state. It does not hide other layers or show the intermediate result after each effect. After is the state used for export.

Focus controls reduces the preview while editing; select Expand preview to restore it. The Preview control offers Auto, Full, Half, and Quarter. Auto can lower preview resolution when playback cannot keep up; exports render at full output resolution. The composition canvas begins from the first imported media’s dimensions. Open Canvas & utilities to reach Canvas size and frame rate: Width and Height accept even values from 16 to 4096; Frame rate offers 12, 15, 24, 25, 30, 50, or 60 fps. Background is Transparent or Colour; selecting Colour reveals the Colour picker. Transparency applies to GIF; MP4 uses Background for transparent areas. There is no aspect-ratio preset or crop tool in the canvas controls. Output sizing scales the long edge while preserving the composition’s existing shape unless you explicitly change dimensions.

Output settings and formats

Open Output to choose GIF or MP4, a Size preset, and format-specific options; then choose Download when ready. Custom exposes the Size (long edge) selector. Composition Width, Height, Frame rate, and Background are under Canvas & utilities → Canvas size and frame rate. The frame rates are 12, 15, 24, 25, 30, 50, or 60 fps. Canvas dimensions are even values from 16 to 4096 pixels. Changing width and height can change the exported shape; preview the result before rendering.

Size presets

The current preset menu offers Custom, Instagram · Reels, Stories, feed, X · video, X web · GIF (quality first), TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. They set dimension rules only: choose GIF or MP4 separately, and set frame rate under Canvas size and frame rate. Presets preserve the canvas shape; they do not crop or change aspect ratio. Treat platform presets as starting points, not upload or compliance guarantees.

Current dimension rules: Instagram sets width to 1080 px and derives an even height from the canvas shape. X video, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts set the short edge to 1080 px and cap the long edge at 1920 px (MP4 output dimensions are made even). X web GIF starts from the source canvas size without upscaling, reducing dimensions if they exceed 1280 × 1080; selecting it also enables Fit to X web automatically. For a controlled output scale, choose Custom; then Size (long edge) offers Canvas size, 480 px, 640 px, 800 px, 1080 px, or 1920 px. Other presets hide this long-edge selector and compute dimensions from their rule.

GIF

Choose GIF for an animated image. Set Colours to 256, 128, 64, or 32; Dither to None, Diffusion, or Ordered; and Play to Loop forever, Once, 2 times, or 3 times. GIF has no audio. Fit to X web automatically targets the X GIF target (15,000,000 bytes, 1280 × 1080, 350 stored frames, and 300 million stored pixels). It may resize the image and drop frames while retaining their elapsed time in longer holds. This is a compatibility attempt, not a guarantee about current platform requirements. Use it separately from Maximum target size. The optional Maximum target size (MB, optional) accepts 0.000001 to 100 MB (decimal megabytes), up to six decimal places. It is a maximum rather than a padded target; fitting may reduce dimensions and fine detail. It preserves the selected frame timing, Colours, and Dither settings. The bounded search stops after eight attempts or at 120 px wide (or the selected width if smaller); For target: keep selected output dimensions allows one attempt. If the target cannot be met, Output reports an error and the smallest tested size. Fitting does not guarantee a globally largest result because GIF size is not strictly monotonic with dimensions.

The optional Repair GIF loop changes finished GIF frames only; it does not edit the project. Enable Prepare an optional loop repair, set inclusive First retained frame and Last retained frame, then choose After trimming: Trim only, Ping-pong, or Crossfade end into start. Suggest endpoints and Preview repair compare endpoint thumbnails; preview supports up to 350 rendered frames. Input processing has a 1,000-frame ceiling, but interactive preview is unavailable above 350 frames. Crossfade overlap (s) accepts 0.06–60 seconds (default 0.20) and cannot exceed half the retained duration. Each input hold must be at least 0.02 seconds. Preview before choosing Use previewed repair; if the artwork or output settings change afterward, preview again. Suggestions do not judge motion. Ping-pong reverses motion and makes the loop longer; crossfade can ghost moving shapes, shift the start, and shorten the loop. It cannot repair tracker initialization or guarantee natural motion. The edited GIF remains silent and may no longer match the soundtrack’s phase or duration. Reset / turn off repair returns to the original loop.

MP4

Choose MP4 for H.264 video. Quality offers Standard, High, or Maximum. Plays offers once, 2, 3, or 5 repetitions. Choose Background for transparent areas, and enable Include the sound in MP4 exports if the soundtrack should be in the file. MP4 needs browser WebCodecs support and an H.264 encoder configuration supported at the requested size. MP4 export depends on browser WebCodecs support and an H.264 encoder configuration that works at the requested size. A smaller output size may work if encoding fails.

Other output actions

Export this frame as SVG exports the current frame as vector shapes. It works best with flat-colour looks such as dither, halftone, posterize, or pixel art, and the frame can contain at most 64 opaque colours; source pixels with alpha below 128 are ignored and exported paths are opaque. If there are too many colours, add Posterize or Dither and retry. Batch: apply to many files… applies the effects from a base media layer and everything above it to each selected video or image, using the current output settings. Each input gets its own output; multiple successful outputs can also be downloaded together with Download all … (.zip). Batch does not support clip sections or transitions, nor a one-GIF Repair GIF loop; turn the repair off first. A media layer is required. If frame Rails cannot be matched to each input, Studio asks whether to Apply to all frames for this batch or Cancel. That changes only the batch copy; the project keeps its selected frames.

When an export finishes, the result panel reports File size, Dimensions, Frames (GIF), Colours (GIF), and Made in time. Output progress reports render status and gives Download file, Save or share file (when the browser offers it), Cancel, and Return to edit where applicable. Cancel stops the active job and does not make a new partial output. The project and settings remain available. Temporary storage used by large GIF rendering is cleaned after completion or cancellation when the browser permits it.

If a Strobe effect’s flashes or artwork gaps cannot be represented at the chosen loop length and frame rate, Output warns that frames may miss flashes. It may offer Lengthen loop to [duration] s, keeping the flash count or let you select Export these sampled flashes anyway. Changing loop duration or raising frame rate can improve the sampled cadence. Keyed or modulated Strobe timing is explicitly not certified by this static check. For GIF, holds shorter than 20 ms may be slowed or skipped by GIF players; use MP4 for more reliable cadence.

Keyboard and accessibility

  • Space plays or pauses the composition when focus is not in a text field, select, button, or dialog.
  • Escape hides an active help hint and cancels point-picking mode.
  • Cmd/Ctrl+S uses Save project when focus is outside text fields, selects and open dialogs.
  • Use Tab to move through controls and Enter or Space to activate them. Resource and timing tabs support left/right arrow navigation plus Home/End; the At the playhead menu supports up/down plus Home/End and Escape to close. Escape also cancels point-picking mode. Keyboard details depend on which control has focus.
  • Hover or focus a control to see its hint. On touch, hold a control briefly for the hint; an ordinary tap activates it. Hints are not substitutes for the detailed parameter reference.
  • Open Help & preferences for the guided tour, explainers, and display preferences. Use Show the Studio tour again to restart the short tour; Show explainers I've dismissed again re-enables one-time effect explainers. Hint dismissal is separate from explainers.

Studio provides keyboard-operable controls and reduced-motion styling. Browser and device behavior can vary; this guide is not a certification of screen-reader or physical-device accessibility.

Worked examples

These examples use current Studio labels. Features that depend on a browser capability or source file can behave differently across devices.

Still images to GIF

  1. Choose Import media and select several still images.
  2. In the sequence dialog choose One animated layer · each image is a frame, set Each frame (s) if needed, then choose Add to Studio.
  3. Open Output, select GIF, review the playback and size settings, and choose Download.

To keep one frame sequence, use the animated-layer option; Separate layers creates a composite instead. GIF does not include audio.

MP4 with sound

  1. Import an MP4 with sound, or open Sound and choose + Add sound for a separate soundtrack.
  2. Use the soundtrack controls to choose the loop start and length. Check that the preview plays the sound you expect.
  3. Open Output, choose MP4, enable Include the sound in MP4 exports, and choose Download.

GIF exports are silent. Live microphone input is not a soundtrack; a recorded live-input loop stores analyzed values for effects, not microphone audio.

Two-layer effect composition

  1. Import your first image or video. Select + Add layer → Media files… and add a second source.
  2. In Layers, select the top layer and adjust its Opacity (%) or Blend if you want it to combine differently with the layer below.
  3. With that layer selected, open Effects → Add effect. Add another effect if useful; the displayed order determines the stack order.
  4. Choose Before and After to compare the selected layer’s effects. The other layer remains visible in both states.

Two keyframes on a numeric effect setting

  1. Add an effect with a supported numeric range, such as Waves, then open Animation.
  2. Move the playhead to the first time, set the value and use Key beside that property.
  3. Move the playhead to a second time, change the value and set a second key. Play the loop and adjust the two values or their interpolation.

Only supported range controls can receive property keys. Effect on/off keys use the effect’s separate Key control.

Different labels for two tracked shapes

  1. Add Blob tracking. Choose Labels → ID only so the preview shows the detected IDs.
  2. Open Track Styles & text tags. Enter the first displayed ID in Tag 1 target ID (0 = off), then enter its caption in Tag 1 text.
  3. Use a different displayed ID in Tag 2 target ID (0 = off) and its caption in Tag 2 text. Check the preview again.

Use IDs shown by your own preview. Crossings, overlap, occlusion, fast motion or tracking resets can change which shape an ID describes. Tags label detected IDs; they do not lock onto people or objects.

Save, reopen and recover

  1. Use Save project on desktop; the compact phone control is labelled Save. The result is an editable .kinoe project file, separate from a GIF or MP4 export.
  2. Later, choose Open project and select that file. If the browser offers a missing-media list, review it before choosing whether to continue.
  3. If Studio offers local recovery, review the listed session and choose Recover it or Not now. For a durable copy, save the project file separately; browser recovery is not a backup.

Effect and parameter reference

Search by effect name or parameter. Each entry lists the controls and choices available in Studio. Controls marked conditional appear only when the selected mode or related field enables them. More settings or Track Styles & text tags identifies a disclosure in the effect card.
